Turose School Store & Gift Shop

Turose is Hawthorne Valley School's Store & Gift Shop and offers a wide variety of items, as well as craft workshops during the year.

Turose has a wide variety of natural fiber craft supplies for the craft enthusiast. Wool, mohair, alpaca and cotton yarns, embroidery floss, pearl cotton, silk ribbon, buttons, and organically grown cotton fabric by the yard and yarn, knitting & sewing needles and crochet hooks.

Turose offers a beautiful selection of hand dyed items with "living" plant & insect dyes. Living color wool felt, wool yarn, wool/Alpaca yarn, roving & fleece, silk ribbon, pearl cotton are all available as well as silk scarves and 2 yard pieces of silk for craft work and play cloths.

Turose also carries beautiful gifts made from craftspeople around the world. The companies that distribute these gifts are a part of the "fair trade" movement, insuring the individual craftsperson receives a "fair" wage for the items they make. Examples of fair trade items include: wooden boxes from India, felted hats from Nepal, hacky sacks from Guatemala, dolls from Africa and Argentina, seasonal items from Indonesia, Peru and Vietnam.

Other items in the shop include: Children's books, including picture books, classic readers, Newberry Honors, craft books, and books on Waldorf Education and Anthroposophy; school supplies, including the Stockmar beeswax crayons, paints, modeling wax, Lyra giant & polycolor pencils, and Artemis plant-colored crayons, paints, & modeling wax, main lesson books; traditional wooden toys, colorful kites, handmade dolls, creative card games, cooperative and challenging board games, and craft and handwork kits.

Turose offers a variety of candles including one made of beeswax and of a new kind of wax derived from the palm tree, which burns very clean. Lovely rings, earrings, and necklaces are available as well as supplies for making a one of a kind piece or jewelry.
