Eurythmy

Eurythmy

Eurythmy, a performing art, is an important aspect of the curriculum. It nurtures and strengthens the faculties of thinking, feeling, and willing through bodily movements. The activities are either accompanied by or directly expressive of poetry and music and require complete involvement, which in turn has a beneficial effect on the harmonious growth and development of all the faculties needed for successful learning and self-expression. Some of these are: attention, concentration, self-motivation, presence of mind, imagination, creativity, social awareness, interest and appreciation of the cultural aspects of life, and more.

Eurythmy in the Hawthorne Valley School is practiced from nursery/kindergarten through the twelfth grade in an age-appropriate manner, growing from an imitative, playful beginning through ever more challenging activities, to the possibility of individual, artistic expression in the senior year.
